When desperate…shop your closet.

Argh! dievca got roped into a last-minute Holiday Party.  she had to make a decision on what to wear and pack it to wear after work. Did dievca mention she bikes to work and she was under a time crunch? Did she mention that she’s been insanely busy and didn’t have time for a mani/pedi, wax or even working out? No open toes, sheer tights, feeling like a blob…

Earlier in the month dievca admired this outfit and color combination from http://www.ilovegreeninspiration.com:

Of course she doesn’t own the top, pants nor the boots….

So, she shopped her closet:

TopShop Navy Blue Velvet Skirt Gap pale pink cowl neck tank j crew navy blue sequin cardigan Three Strand Beaded Choker Grey Three Strand Beaded Choker Grey2
Falke Opaque Tights NavyRobert del Carlo Scrunch Suede Navy Boots
Broadway and Broom Velvet skirt with pockets -navy blue
Gap Cowl Neck Tank -taupe/pink
J Crew Sequin Wool Cardigan -navy blue
Vintage Beaded Collar -grey pearls, gold beads, colored crystals
Falke Tights -navy blue
Roberto del Carlo Suede Boots -navy blue

And she ended up with this:20141215_133550_resized 20141215_133607_resized

Not even close to the fabulous inspiration outfit, but something that would do in a pinch. At least the colors are close and dievca owns all the items. The tank and skirt could be steamed in the shower at work — everything else doesn’t wrinkle and the choker is from her Grandmother. Master should be happy with the outfit, too.

Please remind dievca not to say, “yes” next time~

PS. Since the outfit is very conservative, what about going wild on the Coat?20141215_143406_resized 20141215_143418_resized

love the outfit, you’ll be smashing! the coat? ehhh…….

  2. But you’re not allowed to say no!! Loved the outfit – both of them! xxx

I will be really working on my saying “No” skills. Actually, the party turned out to be a great deal of fun and my layers allowed a strip down when it became too hot with everyone dancing.

  3. hispetitelle says:

That’s one funky coat. Alright now, say it with me, “NO!” You did a great job shopping your closet. I like your boots and the sequin cardigan.

    • dievca says:

The boots (Roberto del Carlo) have been a “go to” item — I found the brand at Barneys Warehouse Sale and have had great luck with sandals and flats, too. The sequin cardi was an eBay purchase. People started to pet the coat, which I loved – being so tactile…
Party was much better than expected which makes it harder to say “No” next time….

  4. Parties must all improve when you enter the room. Well shopped.

You are very kind! I do know that I was one the culprits of getting the dancing started — and then the dance floor exploded. XO
Nice to use something you own in an unexpected way. More mileage.

Sometimes when I need to shop my closet I use the motto of…
pair the unexpected together…sometimes it works..I’ve pulled off quite a few unique looks with that thought in mind. And Iove the outfit, the coat is definitely a wild thing.

    • dievca says:

Great Motto, I am going to keep it in mind for the future. I have been paring down my closet and the cardigan and tank were on the remove list — now they are going back into rotation.
I ended up feeling good in the outfit which is the point. And when it happens under duress, even better. 🙂

      • zaychishka says:

I hope it can help you for future outfits 🙂 Haha I love that about the “rotation” part..I do the same too. And i’m glad you felt good in the outfit, it looked amazing, and unique.
