dievca’s NYC -all things Chinese weekend – Chinatown

dievca had to work from 7:30 am to 10:30 am on a Saturday morning.  she was planning on meeting people to go to Chinatown, so she didn’t ride her bike in. dievca chose to walk the High Line.

After the High Line and work, dievca went with a friend and her friend’s 80 year old Mother to Fishs Eddy. Fishs Eddy is a store that offers an eclectic selection of flatware, dishes & glasses, from funky to vintage styles.  The original store is located near Gramercy Park.

dievca picked up some French traditional water glasses.  No…they don’t look like these High Ball glasses, but she had to share the photos with you.

After Fishs Eddy, the ladies made their move to Canal street and into Chinatown.

Knowing where to buy fruit, seafood, dry goods and dumplings, she was a speed demon doing 80 mph. Amazing with navigating the crowds. It was an Art.

Before going to the last store, it was time to have Dim Sum at a local joint. Only Chinese spoken — numbers called in Chinese, crowded, tables shared with others and fabulous food and tea.

One more dry goods store and everyone was off to take the subway home with all their goodies.

hmmm…my sister dropped by yesterday for a surprise visit…and where did we go? dim sum! me & d, in synch 😉

  3. I love the High Line. Sounds like a delightful day.

  4. I remember we went through Chinatown very quickly, not stopping anywhere – even for dim sum – because we were intimidated. And didn’t have a supermom with us either! We ended up for pizza in Little Italy 🙂

I completely understand — I had to serve on a Jury for a court case (Jury Duty) — which is in that area and you have to eat, so I’ve done some navigating. It’s more fun with someone who knows the “ins and outs”.

It was a good trip and we finished with the Met China: Through the Looking Glass on Sunday (haven’t finished writing it up) It was a joy to spend time with my friends Mom, too.
