International Women’s Day: Beauty by Country

Yes, the 2016 theme for International Women’s Day is “Planet 50-50 by 2030: Step It Up for Gender Equality”. But, dievca got distracted by something admittedly more trite — Women’s International Beauty Standards….Sorry.

UK-based Superdrug Online Doctor hired female graphic designers in 18 countries to retouch the same portrait of a woman to become more attractive to their culture. The shocking responses show the dramatic differences in how different countries perceive beauty.

dievca found this visual depictions of Cultural Differences to be very interesting–especially when she has experienced that her curves are more appreciated by certain ethnic groups, rather than others.

On the flip-side, no matter what the “look” is,  dievca’s first thought about any representation is —- is she nice?

    Curious to see how beauty is seen from another culture. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder X

      “Beauty is in the eye of the beholder.” Very true! I know that I rely on behavior and carriage when I make my beauty calls, so it’s hard for me to just use a photo…

    It is fascinating to see how different cultures see woman’s beauty. I think there is a lot of diversity within the same cultures as well – just ask a man what makes a beautiful woman, then ask a woman – probably the answers will be different.

      Thanks, Anami – Happy Women’s Day back! Beauty is always subjective – but there are general trends….I found all the renditions to be beautiful in some way.
