“Black Leather Jacket Auction” Barneys

Barneys Leather Jacket AuctionIn 1986, Barneys hosted an auction of designer/artist embellished Jeans Jackets to fight AIDS.  To launch the new downtown Flagship store, Barneys has asked 23 artists and designers to create embellished Black Leather Moto Jackets (Men’s and Women’s) for an online auction with Christie’s.  You can bid until March 22nd and the proceeds from the auction are going to the LGBT Center and White Columns.

dievca saw the auction windows on her way to Tory Sport (a trip that was a bust).  But she had fun learning about it and looking in the windows…here are some of her favorites:

A bold move back in 1986. Well done for sticking to their guns and fight ignorance. X

      Hi,
I ran in just to see what was going on. It’s very clean-lined, but……..boring. I was more of a Chelsea Barneys Co-Op girl. I could still sense the Loehman’s and the design reminded me of Saks 5th Ave Shoe department for some reason (haven’t been there in a long while~) No purchases of any kind, so I was good. One necklace from Tate, but at $9K – no way. XO
