End of an Era, then Europe refreshes dievca’s Memories

As of September 14th, 2015 – Racked NY reported that Benetton closed its last US store (the 601 Fifth Avenue Flagship Store) and sold the building to the H&M Group.

dievca’s small hometown boasted a Benetton’s at one point — not in a commercial mall, but as a boutique. dievca went off to college in the mid 80’s with sweater knit pants, sweater knit turtlenecks, a chunky jacquard sweater and wore them all to death  with her Nine West brown leather short boots.

Flashforward to 2016.

Benetton is gone in NYC, but dievca found it in Germany.  The stores were offering sweater knit pants, sweater knit turtlenecks, chunky jacquard sweaters. Amazing.  dievca didn’t look as good in the sweater knit pants as she did in college, but she did find a great bell sleeved knit sweater and matching scarf (hers is the tan/brown/burgundy sweater and scarf).

dievca feels like Benetton is worth a second look!

  1. That’s true. We still have Benetton shops in every bigger city

A nice throwback to our youth. X

  3. I’d forgotten all about Benetton. Those stores with everything folded so maddeningly neatly!!
I had some of their knitwear; it was kinda compulsory in the ’80s! Now I think of it, I even had their perfume. ☺

  4. I remember we were dreaming of trips to Italy so we could get hold of the latest designs. Those of us who couldn’t make it were relying on friends studying in Italy – and they, in turn, were living off cigarettes and apples just to be able to afford more Benetton stuff. Or Fiorucci. Ah, the 80s!!! xxx

Fiorucci was way too cool (and inaccessible) for me. XO Benetton was a reach, too, cost-wise. I am fascinated with that because the price point is so much better on the website nowaday~
