Longline Bras

A longline bra is one that has extra fabric that extends below the bust. Sometimes this extra fabric is just a few inches in length, while other styles cover most of the torso down to around the belly button or waistline. Originally, most longline bras were designed to create a trimmer waistline.

They are often confused with Bustiers and Corsets. However, longline bras are only technically defined by the band (the part under the cups that goes around the torso) extending further down the torso down to around the belly button/waistline. It is essentially an extended bralette with benefits!

One of the perks of a longline bra is that it looks flattering on every body type. The longer band provides extra support for the breasts. That means they are excellent for fuller-busted women as they can help alleviate back pain, stress on shoulder straps, and distribute weight better while still achieving lifted breasts.

But, if you’re looking for a bra that also provides a shapewear effect, longline bras may not be the best choice . A Bustier extends to the hipline and is designed for sculpting the torso as well as providing cleavage enhancement. Longline bras are meant more for fashion than function.

Other instances where a longline bra might not work:

• Smaller-busted women (if sized wrong, the band can roll up)
• Women with a shorter torso (if sized wrong, the band can roll up) – uh, dievca’s problem…
• Women with wide set breasts – they need cups that tilt inward like a plunge bra

Sizing for longline bras can sometimes be a little tricky. This is because not only are you sizing for a bra, but also a torso measurement that must be accounted for. The most important thing to have correct is the band size- and don’t be surprised if this is different for longline bras than other bra styles.

Sizing can be a challenging for petite women. To help the band not roll and hit the right location so it’s not uncomfortable, try going a size down to ensure it is snug and not loose on the skin.
