April Fool’s Day sometimes called All Fools’ Day, is one of the most light-hearted days of the year. Its origins are uncertain. Some see it as a celebration related to the turn of the seasons, while others believe it stems from the adoption of a new calendar.

April-Fools-Day

Ancient Cultures, including those of the Romans and Hindus, celebrated New Year’s Day on or around April 1.  In medieval times, much of Europe celebrated March 25, the Feast of Annunciation, as the beginning of the new year.

In 1582, Pope Gregory XIII ordered a new calendar, the Gregorian Calendar, to replace the old Julian Calendar. The new calendar called for New Year’s Day to be celebrated Jan. 1. That year, France adopted the reformed calendar and shifted New Year’s day to Jan. 1. According to a popular explanation, many people either refused to accept the new date, or did not learn about it, and continued to celebrate New Year’s Day on April 1. Other people began to make fun of these traditionalists, sending them on “fool’s errands” or trying to trick them into believing something false. Eventually, the practice spread throughout Europe.

There are problems with this explanation:  1.) This doesn’t fully account for the spread of April Fools’ Day to other European countries. The Gregorian Calendar was not adopted by England until 1752 and April Fools’ Day was already well established. 2.) We have no direct historical evidence for this explanation, only conjecture, and that conjecture appears to have been made more recently.

Either way the French call April 1 Poisson d’Avril, or “April Fish.” French children sometimes tape a picture of a fish on the back of their schoolmates, crying “Poisson d’Avril” when the prank is discovered.

Sometimes You are Ready: Dreaming of a new Play Collar and Lead

BDSM leans towards black leather, studs, locks
– serious accouterments.

Master and dievca came at dievca’s presentation and their playing with a more lighthearted approach. Colorful or embellished Play Collars, elegant chokers for Presentation in public.

Black Leather and Rhinestone Play Collar

Master and dievca have beautiful play collars and leads:

Sometimes you just need a plain black collar for Presentation.
(Are you seeing a theme with the combat boots? What is up with dievca?)

It has been years since dievca has treated Master and herself to a new (and more durable) black play collar. Master happily approved of her plan. So, she’s started her search with:

LEATHER COLLAR IN BLACK (1.625″)

$75.00
Hand crafted in premium genuine leather, this simple and elegant leather collar design is both comfortable and durable.
1.625 inches (41mm) thick. Fits neck sizes up to 16 inches (41cm). Includes a retainer pin, but can be locked with a small padlock (sold separately).

Each collar is hand-made from premium quality double-back belting leather, and then lined with a padded, ultra-soft hand-bag leather. The edges are folded for maximum comfort and sewn with oversized nylon thread for superb durability. The retaining pin is designed to fit a small padlock (not included $18.00).

Matching Lead is $55.00

If you have a suggestion for a black play collar, dievca would love to hear about it!

Being a stinker….(just don’t get yourself killed)

Facts:
New Jersey Transit is currently a mess.
New Jersey Drivers are dangerous.

Because New Jersey Transit is a mess, there are more people from New Jersey driving in NYC.

As a biker…this affects dievca, directly.

One morning, dievca almost got hit by a NJ driver who had stepped on the gas through a changing light…and tried to swipe her instead of going into the other lane. Then proceeded to yell out his window that what dievca was doing was illegal (mind you the cops directing traffic see dievca riding her bike to work multiple times a day and know that she is hyper-aware – plus she follows the rules of the road, treating her bike as a vehicle).

dievca, in her stupidity,  pedaled hard next to his car and yelled back through his window,
“If you cannot afford to live in the City, don’t drive in the City”.

she has been dying to say that to one of the idiotic NJ drivers for a long time.
His reply was lost at the West Side Highway crossing…

All smug, dievca moved on to the Hudson River Pathway….

and managed to swallow a bug.

Charlotte Olympia Creepy Crawly Keychain Coin Purse

A fitting ending for an ignoramus.

(Really, arguing with a NJ driver – who won’t get it and is stuck driving into the City because the NJ Transit is a mess and dievca setting herself up to do something stupid or get killed is not the smartest thing she has done in her Life….the bug proved that. But honest to goodness, it felt good to say that snarky comment for 5 seconds at 5:30 am before she ate the bug.)

PS. A little extra protein in Life never hurts.

The French phrase oh là là isn’t so much an expression as an interjection. It can indicate surprise, disappointment, commiseration, distress, annoyance… any moderately strong reaction to something that was just said or done. Note that there is no connotation of sexiness or impropriety in French.*

It can be strengthened with added ‘s, always in pairs.

(*This expression is often used in English to talk about something risqué. It tends to be misspelled and mispronounced “ooh la la,” usually said slowly and with the first word comically elongated.)

DIY – Do It Yourself

dievca is trying to clean out her closets drastically to match Master’s sensibility about materialism:
Less is More.
But, her passion for fashion takes over on many occasions. Master does not expect dievca to follow His leanings because He knows that fashion brings her a great deal of joy.

But, dievca is at the point where she needs to have a clear out.

It is really bad when she asks her Mom to help her weed out dresses that are not flattering and they both end up looking in the mirror and saying ” I know why you bought that dress.” “Oh, that is lovely.” “You cannot get rid of that…” Not good.

This occurs with shoes, too.

When dievca decided that she would like to buy a pair of heels with flowers for Spring, the Charlotte Olympia version was  the Holy Grail that spoke to her.  But trying to stay within her new rules — items need to leave the house, not come in — dievca is trying to put her DIY skills to good use.

she found these DIY shoe sites:
http://www.brit.co/diy-shoe-hacks/
http://www.trendhunter.com/slideshow/classy-diy-shoe#1)
Plus this photo of DIY Floral Heels for inspiration.  Currently, dievca is scouring her shoe collection for a pair that can be drafted for her project.

Wish her luck because she is still lusting over those Charlotte Olympia Flower Heels…

Does anyone else have trouble clearing their closets? or have a DIY clothing project going?

Learning to read with Charlotte Olympia shoes

deivca was feeling a bit blue and took a moment to look at some Charlotte Olympia shoes as a pick-me-up.  While she wandered about the web looking at new and past items — she realized that her whole journey of learning to read as a child was laid-out by Charlotte Olympia Collections.

dievca was in 3rd Grade and her Mother despaired of her daughter ever learning to read.  An expert told dievca’s Mother to let dievca read whatever she wanted — magazines, advertisements…..comic books. Yes, you guessed it. dievca’s first choice of reading material came from the grocery store check-out line in the form of Archie Comic Books.

Grocery Store Archie Comic Book 2014

Though it pained her Mother to waste money on comic books, the doctor said it would work and it did!

Slowly, very slowly dievca was reading and her parents wanted to keep the momentum rolling — what do you offer an 8-year-old with a vivid imagination, who loves to pretend, dance and move?  Stories with a strong plot, action, fantasy and magic. Stories which are similar to the offerings of  the TV show: The Wonderful World of Disney. because dievca watched the show religiously. So, her Mom and Dad’s offerings: Disney and Golden Book Fairy Tales with pictures.Golden Book Cinderella

Charlotte Olympia Matilda Shoes, Fairy Tale Collection

So, now deivca was reading comic books and Fairytales….what more could her Parent’s offer her that would be of interest.  They started with leaving a kids magazine on the bathroom shelf:  National Geographic World  — the Kid’s Did It section was very interesting to dievca. She was amazed that there was a magazine directed towards her age group.  Then dievca’s Parents left a copy of Charlotte’s Web by E.B. White on the shelf.  dievca was hooked, she wanted to know what word Charlotte was going to write about Wilbur and what was going to happen next!Charlotte's Web

Charlotte Olympia - Charotte's Web Shoe

Charlotte Olympia – Charlotte’s Web Collection

dievca finally caught up with how to read, in 4th grade.  The Tales of the Fourth Grade Nothing by Judy Blume, sealed the deal.  Never a child to do things by halves, dievca was a bookworm by 5th grade and you couldn’t get her nose out of a book.

It’s a problem even to today.  dievca tries to avoid reading when she needs to get work done, because once she puts her nose in a book — Good-Bye World~

So, Thank You, Mom and Dad, Archie, Disney,  E.B. White and Judy Blume (plus others).  Your efforts taught a child to read!  And Thank You, Charlotte Olympia for honoring the dievca’s Classics with her Collections. XO
