“Where does an 800-pound gorilla sit?” [“Anywhere it wants to.”]

Photo: dievca Hudson Yards NYC 02/2021

To raise awareness and funds for the critically endangered gorilla species, public artists Gillie and Marc Schattner have created a massive sculpture of the animal that arrived in Hudson Yards’ Bella Abzug Park. Titled King Nyani, Swahili for ‘gorilla’, it’s the world’s largest bronze gorilla sculpture and can fit two to three humans just in its hands.

Follow that line

A little “Grease” at the Vessel

The Hudson Yard Egg, Beehive, Shawarma – whatever you would like to call the “vessel” is playing host to movies and televised sporting events. You pay for a socially-distanced “pod” of two to four seats with snacks and access to pizza and alcohol. The sound is offered through high-quality over-the-ear headphones. dievca had a flashback evening and watched “Grease” – there was a lot of dancing and singing. she has confirmed her love for Stockard Channing’s Rizzo.

The cost of the tickets is $100 for four seats. About the same as a movie theater ticket + snacks. With no one bumping into your chair or talking during the dialog.

An organization’s loss is a dievca’s gain~

It hurts dievca to watch as multiple Stores/Brands close down. Some because of COVID, some using COVID as a cover.  The face of retail is changing rapidly as is Fashion. Can anyone keep up?

That said, dievca made a last visit to the Hudson Yards Neiman Marcus store which had just opened up, last year….
And she was roped into spending some of her stimulus money.
Here’s how:

The original Manufacturer’s Suggested Retail Price (MSRP) for the items dievca bought at the Neiman Marcus Hudson Yards Store Closing would have been:

$3590–Burberry Cashmere Hoody Overcoat
$895—Blue Chloé Ruffle Cuff Ribbed Merino Wool Turtleneck Sweater
$890—Brunello Cucinelli braided wrap leather sandals
$280—Lily and Lionel Cashmere/Modal Astrology Scarf
$280—Lily and Lionel Cashmere/Model Colored Paisley Scarf
$260—I.D. Sarrieri Lace Balconette Bra
$125—I.D. Sarrieri Briefs
$6320

These items would have been out of dievca’s reach – but she was able to get them for 24% of the List prices.

$836
$134
$171
$140
$140
$54
$15
$1490

Items that were considered, but did not make it to the cash register:

Does dievca feel guilty?
No, the items were going to go to someone and they are items she will use a great deal. she just feels worried about the economy and making sure all her ducks are in a row.

How are you holding up? Did you purchase any wonderful items with your stimulus money?

…and the results of the COVID-19 test are….

A quick recap:
dievca tried to get a COVID-19 antibody test the morning after the riots started in NYC. she walked to three midtown urgent care centers and they were all closed. Apparently, the decision to close was made that morning for workers’ safety – it wasn’t known to dievca at 8 am. Then she drove 2000 miles, roundtrip to her Mother.

dievca was finally was able to get an antibody test last week and play detective when she scheduled an appointment at the NY.gov temporary tent medical center in her neighborhood. On her walk to have blood drawn she ran into some new park artwork:

The COVID-19 antibody test came back negative. That means that her co-worker who ended up with a positive test did not get sick at work, they picked up the virus in Queens.

PS. she’s not planning on kissing the Frog Prince with COVID-19 lurking about~

There’s a Sphinx in the front yard…

“Which creature has one voice
and yet becomes four-footed
and two-footed
and three-footed?”
“Man—who crawls on all fours as a baby,
then walks on two feet as an adult,
and then uses a walking stick in old age”.

“There are two sisters:
one gives birth to the other
and she, in turn, gives birth to the first.
Who are the two sisters?”

“day and night”

You may not look good, but you feel good! (and something of use)

dievca had dinner at the Zodiac Room in Neiman Marcus Hudson Yards. It was a soft opening and the restaurant was empty.  There were unlimited Popovers and dievca’s sparkling rosés were filled to the brim. All in all, a lovely evening.

What dievca wore:

She may not have looked good (she thinks she did), but she felt fabulous!

They had Popovers galore — and dievca knows that popovers are not good on the 2nd day, but she took one home to try again… Hmmm, did they give her the strawberry butter? Hah! They did!

On her way out of the store — dievca loved this sweatshirt (left), but it is handmade and $450…

And the Big Apple Le Creuset is cute (right), but it cannot compete with the one that dievca’s friend gave her for her birthday,,,

She has used it like crazy!

Did dievca tell you about her friend packing the Le Creuset dutch oven in her suitcase, coming from Europe and TSA thinking it was a —- well, something of interest. When dievca opened up her gift it was wrapped heavily in TSA tape.

Something Useful:

Le Creuset ® Caribbean Blue 6.75-Qt. Oval Dutch Oven

Where was Master?  He had friends in from the West Coast and they needed attention.
Not dievca’s worry, Thank goodness… instead she was heavily into the sparkling rosé.
Hiccup~

the egg, the hive, the nanotube, the bowl….

dievca has watched this “thing” grow in the Hudson Yards for the past year.

The word “Vessel” never came to her mind…

“The Thomas Heatherwick–designed structure has been controversial, as some have likened its shape to a doner kebab, while others believe it could be New York’s Eiffel Tower.”
~Nick Mafi, Architectual Digest

Her free tickets to the “Vessel” are for today at 10:00 am – she will let you know how it goes~ (i.e. coronary from climbing all the stairs, stress from the crowds, confusion at the design.)

Note: Master didn’t want to go — he needs to get work done, so he’s waiting until you don’t need tickets.

What dievca is wearing:

After the Vessel, she is hopping on the 7 train to Grand Central where she will catch the Metro-North to Garrison. The Arden Point-Hudson Highlands State Park offers a simple 3.7 mile hike. Weather is showing no rain and temperatures up to 58F / 15C. Should be nice!

How do you clean interior windows in NYC?

dievca was walking by one of the corporate headquarter buildings in NYC:  (SAP, L’Oreal, BCG, plus Tapestry – the new Coach, Kate Spade, Stuart Weitzman umbrella group, etc.) and spotted them cleaning the interior windows with a boom lift.

Pretty cool.

Wonder where they store the lift after usage ~
