Finding Chicago-style out West

dievca took a moment after hiking (she’s in UT) to stop by a Farmer’s Market.  There wasn’t much “farm” in the market, but more pre-made food and goods for sale.  One stand offered Chicago-style Hot Dogs, burgers and the owner (a transplant from Chicago) was trying-out Italian Beef, too.  Out of desperation, dievca just wanted the traditional Chicago-Style Dog (NYC does hot dogs poorly), its been over 10 years…so she figured if you are going to kill yourself eating processed meat – let’s make it good.

A Chicago-style Hot Dog is a salad on a Vienna Beef piece of processed meat:

The Chicago transplant did well.  The Vienna Beef hot dog had snap, the pickle, peppers and tomatoes were crisp, a hint of salt, mustard and relish were just enough.  The bun was solid.  Maybe not Portillo’s, but a good solid meal. Now if dievca could just stop rifting…
