Just in case you wanted to know: Gauchos VS. Culottes

Joe's Jeans Stretch Denim GauchosGauchos: A wide, calf-length trousers modeled after the trousers worn by South American gauchos (cowboys). They usually have a high waist cut and loosely tapers from the thigh until a few inches below the knee. These have been in fashion since the 1950s when women wanted a little more room for their legs while maintaining some sense of style.

H and M Green Eyelet CulottesCulottes: Women’s trousers, usually knee-length or calf length. They have a full cut to resemble a skirt. Culottes are a garment that hangs like a skirt, but is actually a pair of pants. Can be described as a split or divided skirt. During the Victorian Era (mid-to late-19th century), long split skirts were developed for horseback riding. Later, to offer women more freedom to do activities such as gardening, cleaning, bike riding, etc. and still look like she was wearing a skirt.

dievca has been wearing Culottes this past Winter, Spring and Summer — not Gauchos (they remind her of the jersey ones for the 2000’s worn with high-wedge flip-flops…)  dievca’s latest pair of Culottes are the H&M Green Cotton Eyelet pair that should carry her into Autumn (photo above). dievca knows, she knows–so much green in her closet…

What do you think?

If you are comfortable and feel fab, why not? Culottes must be wise in the hot NY summer.

Shulottes! I never really got into Skorts as much — I think it was because you could really see the different between the back and the front. The culottes don’t really look different from the back to the front. Hmmm~

I think Gauchos look best with long, slim legs worn with a great heel. They make me look short and squaty. I do better with Capris (sometimes). I’ve never even tried on Culottes. Always thought they would look bad on me.

I’ve been wearing them and feeling good, but I’m not the one looking at me…I’ve been using a chunkier heeled sandal or wedge/platform sandals. Slides for a more casual look. Mine look like a midi skirt-sort of~

They are easy to wear and are light-hearted, almost like a skirt – but a bit different. The green eyelet ones are amazing on. Unexpected from H&M.

You are very welcome and I did do the Gauchos thing and I actually like those blue jeans ones, but Elle has a good point — tall and long look better in them….XO
We can be culotte buddies together!
