A Summer Challenge! Help!

Translation – long gown. dievca doesn’t have any long gowns other than casual maxi-dresses, so she is at a bit of a loss. The kelly green vintage dress she wore to another NYC wedding is a polyester knit under the fringe – not comfortable for Summer.
So, she’s on the lookout for a dress.
Everything dievca admires, cut-wise, tends to be Navy, Forest Green, etc. Not summery colors…and she doesn’t want to wear black to a wedding. dievca knows, she knows – it’s not a trauma, she has time, but she has only found two possibilities that don’t look like a “kid’s” prom dress and they are $$$.
Please take a look and offer any suggestions/links….Thanks.
dievca’s current options:
Ann Demeulemeester Emerald Silk Gown $1191
Prabal Gurung Charmeuse Gown $3625
I’m thinking you’d be a hit in anything.

Awww, Thank You! I’d like to be a hit in something less expensive, though….argh!

Too good of a friend. The last formal wedding I went to in the City – I had a fabulous time. I have warm and fuzzy feelings. XO

Very true! Sometimes fashion in NYC can be tricky — but some of the ladies sparked some good (less expensive) ideas! Thank Goodness.

Maybe have one made? Bet you can get the fabric (silk) for a steal and find an FIT student in need. Use your dream gown as a template.

I had a friend who had a cheongsam made in Chinatown…that might be a great (and less expensive) option. It can be made long and then cut down, right? Thank you.

And tailored to your body is perfect.

That emerald green is gorgeous.

Thanks — I’ve had 2 red satin dresses (short) in the past. The draping can be touchy body-wise….foundation garments need to be sleek and that would make the dress hot. Hmmm~

Navy not a summer colour? I donˋt see why not – same for emerald green… much depends on the cut and fabric I would think? Anyway this Demeulemeester you show is just brilliant (but Iˋm such a fan so maybe biased :-)) xxx

The navy blue gown I liked looked heavier…I just had an aha! moment writing a reply to Pelelotus about a Christian Dior collar — I have a long black satin Maxi (Vince), white crisp button down and can feature a jeweled collar. Might be an option! a much less expensive option. XO

The emerald one with the arm drape is gorgeous. Based on the rest of the suggestions I think you really want something with good flow and an eye catching aspect. Consider a very wide leg one piece jumpsuit. Might be more affordable and just different enough to be dramatic.

Hello Ret! Good to hear from you. I hope all is well. The jumpsuit sounds like an interesting avenue. I just end up with problems of fit — the curves, shorter waist and being overly short, makes finding one a bear. Black would be easy – colored? Not so easy~
Happy 4th to you and yours. Miss you. XO
